Our raw pine is a select square edge, high density, old growth, from trees 60-100 years old. Big mills that produce 500,000sqft a month of pine only have 3000-5000 sqft of this quality. We must buy from multiple sources to get this quality. Big retailers cannot build a program around this scarce quality material. The pine you see at the big guys is soft-loose grain plantation grown mush! So not only is the price .80 to 1.00 a sqft higher- the quality is much lower-softer.
If it's prefinished, big name, it's probably "Bejing Toxic", buy a sample, sand a little dust, rub on wrist you don't need.. If 1-2" ugly blisters form, go to E.R. If not you may be ok, how about the kids, pets? We tried this speedy finish-after two E.R. trips, and paint company's admission they knew of this issue? In fact a lot of their salespeople could not enter plants using this poison. This was a high end, reputable, worldwide company! They were using the most expensive -least toxic material they could find. Since there is no EPA in China, do you really believe they care about toxicity?
This problem will only occur when you refinish this UV finished floor. So sell the house first..Don't get the dust in the A/C ductwork! ajax229@windstream.net
